Judith Sturm

Judith Sturm was born in 1973 in Saarlouis, south-west Germany on the border with France and Luxembourg.

She lives and works in Mallorca and in Saarland in Germany

Already in early childhood she discovered her love for art and won four painting competitions during her school days.

Two stays in the USA, in 2006 and 2008 in the printing workshop of the well-known master printer Erika Greenberg-Schneider in Tampa, Florida, decisively shaped Judith Sturm's graphic work. In 2005, the master student of Prof. Baumgarten developed her own unmistakable signature in her painting.

An important meaning in Judith Sturm's work is the lower layer of the painted canvas; only in later work steps does the artist cover these with further colors, but the differentiated pink and salmon-colored underpainting on many layers of chalk ground remains transparent. It is a form of non-representational painting, a treatment of the picture's surface with liquefied paint sprinkled with salt. This gives Sturm's work a special painterly liveliness, which forms a contrast to the linear, outline-like passages in the figurative representations - and thus a strangeness in the thoroughly familiar.

"My painting is based on a primordial soup of life made of water, salt and carbon"
